Two people have been charged after a haul of methamphetamine worth about $2.4 million was seized at Auckland International Airport.
Police and Customs made the 13.5 kilogram seizure after allegedly finding the drugs concealed within heavy steel machinery.
A 22-year-old Waikato man and 48-year-old Auckland woman have been charged with importing the Class A drug.
They appeared in court after being arrested during two search warrants at Waikato addresses at the weekend.
Police say they are looking for three others.
Detective Inspector Paul Newman said those involved in the smuggling attempt were testing the system "to see if this method would get past authorities"."We believe if this concealment method had been successful, they would have attempted to use the same method to try and bring further significant amounts of this drug into New Zealand," he said.
