A month-long police operation will target light-fingered young people involved in burglaries.
Operation Focus aims to reverse the rising number of house break-ins over the past 10 months by working to prevent young offenders getting into a pattern of committing theft.
Acting Deputy Commissioner for National Operations Andy Coster says the majority of burglaries are committed by young people - with 60 percent of them under the age of 24, and 20 percent under 16.
He says some children start thieving when they're as young as eight years old.
Andy Coster says Police already have a number of prevention programmes for youth offenders, and they're looking at where they're working well, and where else they can be implemented.
He says Operation Focus is one of many tactics to focus on burglary.
