Updated 4.49pm: Police have arrested a man in relation to an armed offenders squad callout in the lower Kaimai Ranges this morning. A routine execution of an arrest warrant went south when the occupant of the home threatened officers, prompting eight police cars and the AOS to attend the rural Bay of Plenty property. The fire service also attended when a small blaze broke out in one of the buildings on the property. Police will not say at this time what the initial search warrant was for. No one was harmed during the arrest, however smoke was seen rising from a property in the area. The incident was contained at the address and there was no wider risk to the public. A reporter at the scene during the morning said Armed Offenders Squad members had come out of a property near the top of the Kaimai Ranges. She said they appeared to be searching a hill while three Armed Offenders Squad members went running down SH29 carrying big guns. She said at least eight cop cars were gathered on SH29 at both ends of of Old Kaimai Rd. "It's looking like they are getting ready to take action."
