Chester Borrows pleads not guilty to careless driving charge

Whanganui MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chester Borrows denied careless driving causing injury to a protestor’s foot when he appeared in the Whanganui District Court this morning. Borrows - charged under his birth name Kerry James Borrows - entered a not guilty plea to the charge arising from an incident in March. He is alleged to have driven into two anti-Trans Pacific Partnership protestors, Tracey Treadwell and Denise Lockett, while driving visiting Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett around Whanganui. The incident happened on Liverpool St on March 22. After the not guilty plea, Borrows was remanded at large. His next appearance is September 13.
