UPDATED 5.30PM Scott Watson is going to have to wait to see if his challenge to the Department of Corrections is going to be successful. This afternoon, High Court Justice Jillian Mallon reserved her decision over whether to let journalist Mike White in on a meeting between convicted double murderer Scott Watson and Gerald Hope, the father of Olivia Hope. The Crown has argued Watson has previously been interviewed for six hours by Mr White, and there was no need for another meeting with a reporter present in a professional capacity. The Crown also argued that a meeting between the men could be volatile, and any reporting of it could be psychologically damaging to both of them. However Watson's lawyer, Kerry Cook, argued the public had a right to know about the meeting, especially when Mr Hope expressed doubts about Watson's conviction. Gerald Hope said he wanted to be there when Watson first met with investigative journalist Mike White. "I've actually been in support of Mike White being in attendance. I have no issue at all." Mr Hope said he has a lot of questions for Watson, but no real expectation of how the meeting will go. "Really it's a matter of two people wanting to actually exchange information honestly, and secondly being able to engage in dialogue and discussion that has I guess the context of what happened 18, nearly 19, years ago."
