UPDATED 7.43am: A police pursuit in Canterbury has ended in spectacular fashion, with a stolen car bursting into flames.
Police stopped three offenders in a stolen car around 11PM last night near Ohoka.
The pursuit started on Tram Rd, in Ohoka, where police spotted a stolen vehicle with two men and a woman inside.
Police chased the vehicle for about 10 minutes, before officers lay down spikes and the car was finally stopped on Rangiora's Woodend Rd.
Two men aged 32 and 24, and a 32-year-old woman then tried to run away on foot.
They were caught before too long.
The stolen vehicle then caught fire, prompting the local fire service to get involved.
The offenders were held in custody overnight and will appear in the Christchurch District Court this morning.
