A man has appeared in the Christchurch District Court facing 47 separate charges of child abuse.
The charges against the 36 year old include rape, sexual violation, indecent assault, grievous bodily harm, neglect and kidnapping, relating to four children.
The charges date between 2000 and April 2014, and are alleged to have happened in several towns in Marlborough and Tasman.
Judge Tom Gilbert granted the man interim name suppression and remanded him without plea until July 7th.
Defence counsel Phil Shamy made no application for bail.
